KitchenAid: Artisan vs. Professional Mixers

The KitchenAid Artisan Mixer(model# KSM75APB) and KitchenAid Professional (model# KP26M1XER) are two beautiful mixers that offer the best in performance. This article will compare their features to help you decide which one is best for YOU.

KitchenAid Artisan Mixer(model# KSM75APB) * ~$350 * 6 qt bowl capacity * 325 watt motor * 10 speed settings with pulse button * Includes a flat beater, dough hook, wire wisk, and pouring shield. KitchenAid Professional (model# KP26M1XER) * $400+ * 4.5 qt bowl capacity * 325 watt motor *. 10 speed settings with pulse button * Includes a flat beater, dough hook, wire wisk, and pouring shield.

The KitchenAid Artisan Mixer(model# KSM75APB) is $40 cheaper than the Artisan and has a 325 watt motor compared to the Professional’s 450 watt motor. The Artisan also has a 10 speed control knob that allows you to have incremental control over your mixing speeds. Each mixer comes with its own flat beater, dough hook and wire wisk. However if you need additional attachments they are sold separately. The Artisan Mixers attachments are $25-$50 cheaper.

This mixer is a great investment, it’s efficient and effective. I purchased this model a year ago and I use it everyday. I purchased the mixer because of its beautiful design and its affordable price tag. The only thing that disappointed me was the limited color options(white, red and silver). When you purchase the Artisan you also get a pouring shield which will be useful when using your mixer to make something like mashed potatoes or brownies that tend to splatter while mixing. The Artisan is also a very heavy mixer which makes it feel very sturdy and secure in your hands.

Pros – The Artisan Mixer has a very beautiful design. I love the chrome handle and the silver color of the mixer. It also makes a beautiful statement in your kitchen! The knobs are smooth and easy to use. You do not have to take your entire hand away from the mixer to turn it off and on. All of the features that you would need for most mixing purposes are conveniently located on this mixer.

The 10 speed control knob is great for beginners who don’t know how to mix dough but still want something that will put out quality results. The grease shield is practical (although I don’t use it) and I see this a key addition considering all of the splattering that can occur when mixing something like mashed potatoes.

The motor is adequate for most basic needs. I don’t see this mixer being used to knead large batches of bread dough by professionals but for most households it will be more than enough for all of your kitchen endeavors!   Cons – When using the Artisan Mixer I noticed that when using the dough hook the mixer doesn’t “pull” the batter into itself as much as the Professional model does.

As a result it tends to make tougher baked goods than other mixers. Not only is it not as effective at kneading batters but it’s also very heavy and bulky. I usually have to stop what I’m doing and watch how I hold onto the mixer to prevent it from slipping out of my hands.  The Artisan is a beautiful mixer, just not as good or powerful as the Professional model.

This mixer is a great investment, it’s efficient and effective. I only purchased this mixer recently and I use it everyday. It’s very affordable for such power and performance. The Kitchenaid Artisan Mixer is a high quality mixer that comes in a sleek silver color with chrome accents. It also has a beautiful white stem that creates an interesting contrast against the black color of the handle. The knobs are smooth and easy to use, you do not have to take your entire hand from the mixer to turn it off and on. All of the features that you would need for most mixing purposes are conveniently located on this mixer.

The Artisan is a beautiful mixer, just not as good or powerful as the Professional model. The Ksm75apb would be a great choice if you’re looking for something simple, basic and easy to use. The KitchenAid Artisan Mixer is an affordable yet powerful home appliance that delivers quality results at an affordable price!

Pros – This mixer’s beautiful white stem against the black color of the handle creates a unique contrast that will compliment any appliance or piece of furniture in your home. The white color also makes the mixing attachments stand out unlike the black color of the Professional model. The handle of this mixer is also chrome which I find to be a very attractive feature.

The size of the bake bowl is bigger than both the Artisan and Professional models. This is great for people who need to put in large batches for family events like Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner! Also when it comes to baking, a larger bowl will help your food cook more evenly and thoroughly because of its increased capacity. If you plan on baking a lot(like me) then this mixer would be a great addition to your kitchen. The motor of this mixer is also more powerful than that of the Artisan model, which means that when you need to mix large batches of dough it will be much easier to do.

Cons – The price tag on the Professional model is $200 more than the Artisan, which isn’t a big deal if all you’re buying is an appliance. But considering the fact that this mixer is only $200 more than the Artisan model, it should also be able to perform and last longer! The only complaint I have about this mixer, as well as all other Kitchenaid Heavy Duty models, is that their motor tends to heat up very quickly after multiple uses. This isn’t a huge concern but it’s frustrating when you have to wait before being able to use the mixer again.

I don’t know how many times I’ve reached for my Kitchenaid mixer, only to find that it’s too hot to touch. My only other complaint is that the attachments are very hard to get on and off of the mixer. This is especially true for the pouring shield, I’m always afraid that I will break it if I try to put it on or take it off by myself.  If you are looking for a more powerful, larger capacity mixing appliance then the Professional series would be a great choice! It can easily perform most tasks and take on large batches of dough with ease.

This mixer is the Cadillac of all Kitchenaid mixers, it can do basically anything you need a mixer to do. The Professional series has a beautiful black color that is very attractive and could be placed in any kitchen. They are all chrome with a white stem and black handle, which look amazing but I feel that the white stem and handle look better on this model than they do on the Artisan.

The clutch feature is quite nice to have, especially if you’re new to baking or aren’t too confident in your abilities. It makes it so that you don’t have to worry about over mixing your food or burning out the motor with lumps in your batter. The 10 speed control is also very practical for beginners. The pouring shield is great for situations in which you are mixing something like mashed potatoes or gravy.

The size of the bowl on this model is noticeably bigger than both the Artisan and Professional models as it has a 3.5 quart capacity. It’s also great that you have different mixing options since there are 6 attachments instead of 4 on the Artisan and 7 on the Professional model. All of these features make this mixer a good choice if you plan on baking large batches of food or making foods that have to be mixed with big batches or dough all at once, not right after each other like cakes, cookies, brownies, etc.

Is Artisan better than professional?

The Artisan and Professional mixers are similar in the sense that they both offer high quality results. They both have heavy duty motors, automatic mixing settings to keep you safe, and come with a wide variety of mixing attachments. They are also both very beautiful mixers so it really comes down to personal preference. The Artisan is much more compact than the Professional model and will look better in your kitchen depending on the kind of decorating style you have. The Professional mixer has a larger bowl than the Artisan model which is great if you plan on baking large batches or kneading bread dough by hand. The Artisan mixer also tends to heat up quicker than its counterpart but this is only a slight annoyance for people who use it often.

Is KitchenAid discontinuing the Artisan mixer?

No, not at all. The Artisan mixer is still available and is still being made. They are only discontinuing the Professional model which has been sold for the past few years. We do not have the answers to why they are getting rid of the professional model but I am assuming that it must be due to quality issues(including that it overheats). Regardless, I still highly recommend the Artisan over the Professional model because it simply offers better quality and a lower price point than its counterpart.

What is the difference between the KitchenAid models?

The difference between the KitchenAid Artisan, Professional, and Prep models is that the Prep model is a budget version of the Artisan model while the Professional is a budget version of the Artisan model.  Basically, it’s just that there are different qualities with each mixer. For example, on the Professional and Prep models you can’t turn off your bowl guard/shield so it’s more difficult to pour ingredients out of it. You have to take off the shield in order to remove dough from your bowl which will make a huge mess on your countertop. The professional also has a plastic shield that cannot be removed at all and doesn’t have any adjustment knobs on it like its counterpart does.

What is the difference between artisan and heavy duty KitchenAid?

There is a big difference between the artisan and heavy duty mixers. The heavy duty mixers are much more expensive than the Artisan mixers and have larger bowls than the Artisan models. They can hold much more batter, sugar, or flour than the Artisan mixer and would be great for bakeries that do large batches of dough or cookies daily. These models also come with a longer warranty which means that KitchenAid believes their products are of higher quality than that of their Artisan counterparts.

Does Kitchenaid sell replacement parts for their stand mixer?

Yes, you can buy replacement parts for your Kitchenaid stand mixer from either Sears or Amazon.  You can also buy a replacement motor, bowl, and lid for the Artisan but you can’t buy parts for the Professional series stand mixer. However, if you need to replace something while you’re still under warranty then they will send out your mixer to be repaired free of charge! This mixer is arguably the best mixers KitchenAid has ever made. The original Artisan was hit or miss when it first came out but now with its replacement(Artisan) we have a true gem.

CONCLUSION:

I believe the Artisan is a much better deal than the Professional model. Since the Artisan is so much cheaper than its counterpart it will save you money in the long run because a lot of times you have to buy new parts for these more expensive models. The quality of this mixer is golden as it comes with everything that you need to make amazing desserts that can rival any other mixers out there. I would highly recommend this mixer to anyone who bakes regularly, especially if baking large batches of food or if they plan on doing so in the future.
