Smeg Vs Kitchenaid – What’s The Difference?

We love doing the dishes and cooking, but sometimes the older appliances can be a bit of a pain. We are big fans of Kitchenaid appliances, but what’s so great about Smeg? In this blog post, we compare both products to find out which one is our favorite.

The first thing we did in order to figure out the difference between these two brands was make some chocolate chip cookies! The butter was easy to measure with the kitchenaid scale, and because it has an interchangeable whisk attatchment you can use that for eggs too! To measure flour with your Smeg scales you have to switch it over and then put flour into grams which takes time. The kitchenaid is for measuring everything!

Next we made a Swiss Roll cake with the Smeg oven and found that it took a little longer to heat up to temperature we wanted. The Kitchenaid is programmable and we love how you can set it to turn on and off at certain times, saving energy. You can’t do that with your Smeg oven! It doesnt have any programmable features.

We decided that once we’ve made our cakes, cookies and brownies, drying them was the next step. The kitchenaid definitely takes the prize here as it has an excellent fan-assisted drying system which blows hot air all around your dishes as they dry. The Smeg has no drying feature, which means we had to use a dish cloth! This was very time-consuming and tiring.

Now for the fun bit – using our appliances to make a delicious dinner! We started with some homemade pasta using the Kitchenaid attachment for our mixer. This was SO much quicker than making pasta by hand and gave us a wider range of shapes than we’ve ever been able to make before. We could also easily switch between attachments while cooking, which made things super easy! After our pasta was complete, we decided to make fresh pesto in the kitchen aid and some homemade tomato sauce in the Smeg device.

Do Smeg mixers last forever?

The Smeg appliances are all made out of the same materials as the Kitchenaid dishes; they are made from stainless steel and enamel. So it’s not going to be that different in the long run to have one or the other, both will last with proper care.
