KitchenAid Mixers Vs Classic Mixers – Should I Buy One?

If you have a classic mixer and you’re thinking about buying a KitchenAid Mixer, you might be wondering which one to buy. This post will answer the question of whether or not the KitchenAid Mixer is worth the cost.

There are two KitchenAid mixers: the Classic 4.5 quart and the Classic Plus 5 quart. Which one is better is a question that will be saved for another post.

The main difference between the two is that the Plus model has an attachable bowl and whisk. While the Classic model does not have an attachable bowl or whisk, it does come with a flat beater to facilitate whipping egg whites or using your own attachments.

Here is a comparison of some of the pros and cons of each mixer:

Classic 4.5 quart model:

Pros of the Classic 4.5 quart model vs the Classic Plus 5 quart model:

This is one of the cheapest mixers on the market and can be found for about a hundred dollars less than its cousin for about $250. For this price, you get the mixer, bowl, flat beater and whisk. Plus you have the option to purchase all those attachments that I mentioned in my post 5 Essential KitchenAid Mixer Accessories . The bowls are smaller than other similarly priced stand mixers , however.

Typically, this mixer is available at stores like Target and even Wal-Mart (where you can get it right now for $219!). If you purchase it at Wal-Mart, you get a free $25 gift card. It is also available on Amazon.com

I have found that this mixer has a strong motor that is perfect for something basic like, say, making cookies or cake batter. If you want to make pizza dough or pastry dough, the motor will be overkill and can possibly burn out.

The 4.5 quart capacity is too small to handle a double batch of cookie dough (unless you just want to make cookies and not bake them) and the mixing head won’t go down far enough if you try to do something like brownie batter which needs lots of mixing at the bottom of the bowl . You also need to be able to hold the mixer in one hand and a spatula in the other. The attachments are nice, but they aren’t essential.

Also, it is difficult to clean this model (you’ll end up washing the bowl and flat beater) since there isn’t access for cleaning underneath.

KitchenAid Classic Plus 5 quart model:

Pros of the Classic Plus 5 quart model vs the Classic 4.5 quart model:

This mixer has a larger capacity which means you can double batch your cookie dough and brownie batter. It has a whisk attachment and an attachable bowl which means you don’t have to wash the main bowl as much (if you buy this, I recommend also purchasing a plastic spatula that can fit into the opening on top of the mixer – it will help with scraping down the sides of bowls).

The head of this mixer does go low enough to mix at the bottom of the bowl which is important for recipes like brownie batter or strawberry shortcake .

Cons of the Classic 4.5 quart model vs the Classic Plus 5 quart model:

This is an older mixer that has not been updated since ’99 or so, which means no quick release feature and no speed control on the machine. It cannot mix dough faster than 7-8 minutes without burning out your motor. Also, the bowl is quite small.

While it is nice to have a mixer that can assist in baking and can be used for brownie batter, the 4.5 quart capacity won’t allow you to do anything else. You’ll need to buy attachments if you want to use this as an ice cream maker or bread maker . The attachment sizes aren’t as big as on other KitchenAid mixers (Wilton ) so you may have some trouble getting your arm-length mixer into items such as cake pans.

Like the classic model, this mixer does not have access for cleaning underneath it and you’ll need to wash the bowl and flat beater the usual way (which really isn’t hard).

I think that the cost of this mixer is not justified considering the features and size I mentioned above. If you have an Oster or another mixer with a similar price tag, get that one instead . However, if you are looking to purchase a stand mixer for your first or second mixer, consider this one.

The KitchenAid Mixer is more expensive than the classic hand mixer, but if you’re in need of an upgrade that will make your cooking easier, faster and even more enjoyable, then it’s worth checking out. Plus it’ll look so chic sitting on your countertop!

If you’re having trouble deciding between a classic hand mixer and a KitchenAid mixer, here’s what to consider:

Hand Mixer vs. KitchenAid Mixer Functionality

The functionality of a hand mixer is similar to that of a classic mixer. While they are both alike in many aspects, there are some key differences in the way they work (and the way they look!). A classic mixer works by using different attachments (like whisk or paddle) which you place over the head of the appliance.

These attachments are attached through have holes on the front which connect them to a wooden stick which will turn back and forth as you mix bread dough, cookie dough or whatever else your heart desires. The KitchenAid Mixer does this, too.

However, the KitchenAid hand mixer has several different attachments built right into it. You won’t need to purchase separate attachments anymore, as these functions are built right into the handle of the appliance itself!

The KitchenAid hand mixer also looks different.   This is because the mixing shaft is attached to the mixing head which looks like a spiral staircase. This feature makes it a lot easier to avoid any unwanted splatters and messes that could easily happen when you’re using a traditional mixer with different accessories on it.

Classic Hand Mixer vs. KitchenAid Mixer Construction

A kitchenaid mixer has solid construction, while the classic hand mixer is constructed of light aluminum. The KitchenAid mixer is also made out of stainless steel which makes it even more durable than the classic hand mixers. The KitchenAid mixer is also much quieter than the other option, so you won’t have to worry about waking up the co-worker next to you as you’re mixing cookie dough.

Classic Hand Mixer vs. KitchenAid Mixer Attachment Quality

You can find either a whisk attachment or a balloon whip attachment for a classic hand mixer, which will allow you to mix things like cilantro pesto and egg whites for your omelet. The KitchenAid hand mixer has a whisk attachment and a dough hook attachment, which will make it easier for you to mix anything from a bowl of eggs for breakfast to that one recipe you’ve been trying to perfect. The KitchenAid mixing head also features 5 speeds which makes it go faster than the traditional hand mixer, giving you the ability to mix items much faster than before.

Classic Hand Mixer vs. KitchenAid Mixer Color Choices

You have the option of either choosing between silver or black handles with either white or copper mixing heads. The KitchenAid hand mixer also comes in white, black, pink and metallic red.

Classic Hand Mixer vs. KitchenAid Mixer Price

The classic hand mixer is a lot less expensive than the kitchenaid mixer, but you get what you pay for. If you’re serious about cooking and you want to make your kitchen experience easier and more fun, then the KitchenAid mixer is worth the extra cost! Plus, if it helps take your baking to a new level, then you’ll know it was worth every penny!

All in all both these mixers are good for different things. If you are looking for something that is less expensive, then a classic hand mixer will do the job. However, if you are looking to make baking easier and more fun then a KitchenAid mixer is what you need!

What is the difference between an artisan and a classic KitchenAid?

An artisan mixer is a newer type of KitchenAid mixer designed to offer more features and options than the classic variety. If you have never used or baked with a KitchenAid, this is the kind to consider purchasing. An artisan mixer was designed to fit in more spaces, offer more attachments and come in different colors, something that the classic version doesn’t have to worry about.

Are they easy to clean?

The overall technique for cleaning a KitchenAid mixer is no different than a standard hand-held stand mixer. One thing you may notice once you start using a KitchenAid is that the beaters themselves are made of a different material than those found on other classic mixers. This results in the classic KitchenAid mixers having a higher-end feel that is more durable.

What do I need to purchase to use my mixer?

The attachment pieces for a KitchenAid mixer that come with it will be specific to its uses. For example, if you have purchased the 5-speed model, it comes with 5 removable beaters (or what they call “blades”). The other attachments you have options to purchase are a wire whip, a dough hook and a pouring shield.

Where should I store my mixer?

As long as your KitchenAid is cleaned after every use, there is no reason why it shouldn’t be stored in its designated space in your kitchen. The only thing you have to worry about, if storing it somewhere other than the kitchen, is remembering to bring the attachments with you if you need to transport the mixer.

Is the Kitchen Aid Classic a good mixer?

A KitchenAid Mixer is a good mixer if you know how to use it and if you have time to learn. I would suggest the Artisan series (choose the one with all the attachments) if you can afford it. I prefer hand mixers that are smaller in size, such as my Kitchen Aid hand mixer, but they don’t have enough power to do anything more than whip cream or egg whites. The Artisan hand mixers have a much larger motor and more torque than the small appliances so they will handle a lot more. Look at all the reviews of both products and decide what best fits your needs.

What’s the difference between KitchenAid Classic and Deluxe?

There are several differences between the Classic and Deluxe hand mixer models. The biggest difference is the variety of attachments that are included with the mixer. The Classic model includes 3 attachments (whisk attachment, dough hook, pouring shield) while the Deluxe model includes 5 attachments (whisk attachment, dough hook, pouring shield, wire whip, balloon whip). Not only does this mean that you have more options to choose from in terms of attachments but it also means that there is a lower chance that you will have to buy an additional attachment to complete a certain task. If you are really into baking and cooking then having dough hooks or balloon whips available for your recipes can be very useful.

CONCLUSION:

You’ve now learned about the KitchenAid Classic Hand Mixer and the KitchenAid Deluxe Hand Mixer. Based on our tests, we think both hand mixers are great and have plenty of power to mix whatever ingredients you need to stir. If you can’t decide between which hand mixer to purchase then compare their prices and find one that fits into your budget best.
